AP Statistics

ok, I’m self-studying this, just finished 1st chapter (only took 2 days :)). I need some insights from those who have already taken this

For things like Standard Deviation, do they expect us to memorize the formula and write it out during the exam or can we just do it in the calculator and give them the answer?

What is the hardest chapter? How challenging was it compared to the 1st chapter?

Up to which chapter do we have to know? I read we only need to do up to like 14.1 to be able to write the AP exam

Thanks a bunch

bump. .

bump. .

alrite i'm also currently taking AP Stats but according to my friend who took it last year (he scored a 5 on the exam, the nerd!) they give you a list of the formulas (ie. standard deviation)...and you basically try to show work (even calculator work) to get partial credit even if the answer is wrong.

o cool so we dont have to memorize the formulas :)

dooit:

yes, they do give the formulas, but, trust me, by the time the first semester is over, you will be able to do standard deviations in your head (well, almost). The SD formula is one of these most common in all of Stats, besides mean, so it will become imprinted on your brain easily.

the test is a joke, most of the multiple choice is common sense, and the free response doesn't cover many types of problems

But is the curve harsh

what's the best prep book for the Ap stat test?

I'd like to know too, but not just test prep... I still need to learn "statistics" itself.

Buy a stat review book...and they give you the equations on the test (an equation sheet, but you have to know the symbols). that's all my advice, it's pretty basic.

i use barron's and it's pretty good...my friend gave it to me (he barely used it so it's new =D)

the curve is even more of a joke... 68-100 = 5

are there any textbooks that are recommended or are textbooks unnecessary (just use Barrons)?

Son's class used Yates Stats for TI, and Barrons. Many 5's in the class, but instructor was excellent.

Self-studying AP Stats? :O Wow...

wish you good luck! I'm a total klutz at stats. eek.

woohoo free credits :D

I'm using practice of statistics, but I don't konw if it's outdated (published 2002). Amazon was selling it for 25$(just a few bucks more than barron's) and I got free shipping too so i was like why not

Barron's and the new 5-Steps-to-a-5 are both not too bad.

Good luck, and I dare you to finish self-study in a month and a half (that's what I did). The test is easy (I got a 5).

Best wishes.

do you need to know calculator functions that are in those "technology toolbox" things in the exercise section but not actually in the chapter?

I mean functions like ShadeNorm, InvNorm and stuff...

thanks

What book are you self studying with? I am taking a normal Stat class but I am going to take the exam at the end of the year. It is Statistics in Action understanding a world of data.
