Im looking to go into business and I have been told that AP Stats is the more attractive option for business-hopefuls, but what about AP Calc? I feel that it is an essential course needed in high school?

Im looking at Wake, Vandy, Richmond, SMU etc.....what are your opinions/ experiences?

c’mom guys, dont leave me hanging here. ill send some naughty pictures or something if thats what you want.

Statistics is more useful than calculus in business. That does not necessarily translate to AP statistics being a better choice than AP calc; as you say, AP calc is kinda expected as part of a rigorous courseload.

Take AP Calc! It is definitely more attractive to admissions officers.

Im considering doubling up but that would be a huge workload at my school

Stats is sort of a joke at my school, so I would definitely take calc. You’ll most likely need to take calc in college anyway, so the AP class next year will give you a head start :).

It depends on your high school, I think. I got a lot out of AP Statistics this year, and a lot of my friends were struggling in AP Calc because the teacher was not very good. I suggest asking around about what the classes are like before you make a decision, regardless of whether or not it will look good to a college.
That goes for doubling up the classes too.

insert math majorness
Real Statistics requires Calculus. Don’t forget that.
delete math majorness

Seriously, Statistics is more relevant to the business world, and Kaori’s right. Struggling with a mediocre teacher and learning nothing in AP Calc may not be worth it. And note, AP Calc is probably a big step up from the high school math you’ve been taking. (AP Stat, not so much, I feel)

No, any college will be more impressed with calc.

In my school, Statistics is severely easier than Calc BC. Calc would be more impressive.

The simple fact is that undergrad biz requires both Calc and Stats. Take Calc in HS where it will usually be “easier” since your competition is a little less and the class is a lot smaller. (Of course, that assumes a good teacher.) Moreover, depending on your college, a good AP score will get you out of the college version.

I attend the top AP math and science school in Alabama so both stats and calc are difficult classes at my school. I probably will double up and drop 2 elective classes to handle the workload

Like you Wilson1013, I want to double-up senior year for Calc/Stats
I think asking around though about the class is a good idea
While I would think Calc is harder/more rigorous… idk.
Since they’re both AP I would choose whichever one you’re more interested in, but doing both I think is the best. Especially if you can handle it.

take calc BC. you won’t regret it.

AP Statistics is considered easier and less rigorous than Calc. However, if you are reasonably good at math, statistics should not be hard because the math in statistics is not difficult at all. Doubling up is a good plan. I doubled up in Calc III and AP Stats this year and it was great! Not too bad, either.

yeah I plan on majoring in business and stats and calc are required so i might as well knock them out in high school or at least become familiar with them
