AP Stats Question (about calculator use...)

Hi everyone,

I just started studying for the AP stats class. I took the class at school and I have a good teacher, but he doesn't really teach for the AP exam, based on what I've been reading before. So we've been learning how to do most things with calculator use and on the free response sections of our test my teacher has told us its okay to just write the calculator functions we use as the work we show, not formulas. (in the probability unit, it was acceptable to just write "binompdf (2, 3, .5)" or whatever, then the answer) Now I'm reading the Barron's book and it says not to write answers in terms of 'calculator syntax'. Does that mean I have to write the binomial probability formula and solve it that way? I'm a little bit confused because in some of the answer portions of the book it clearly says "Using the calculator's statistics package..." Any help with this question would be greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,

For my teacher, he recommends that we write the answer in words. For example, if you do Normalcdf(12,10000,10,2)=40%, you would put it as “The proportion under N(10,2) above 12 is 40%.” In addition, u can also find the z-score and put it in ur answer. Hopes this helped!

It simply means don’t write the command you entered into the calculator, but instead use actual sentences and pictures to convey the calculation you carried out on your calculator.

All you need to do is show your work and writing the binomialpdf, binomialcdf, etc is acceptable, as long as they understand what you’re putting in your calculator, that’s what I did and got a 5
