AP Stats question

I keep on seeing response variable and explanatory variable popping up on FRQ's and MC questions. Can someone explain what they are and what are the differences? Thanks! A example might help too. =]

Response variable is the effect/outcome. It’s what changes (also known as dependent variable).

Explanatory variable explains the variation in the response variable. In experiments, this is the independent variable (what you change).

In simple terms, explanatory is the x variable and response is the y in an LSRL.
