AP Studio Art 2D

Is anyone taking/took the class? I'm thinking of doing photography for the class, but might draw as well. Can anyone provide any insight to the class, like how difficult it is, how much time is dedicated to the class, or any other relevant information for me please? Thanks.

One of my best friends is taking 2D currently… It seems to me like it really depends on the teacher. Her teacher knows basically nothing about the class, so my friend probably doesn’t enjoy it as much as she would. I don’t think you can do just photography, you have to use a vairety of different mediums.

I think she spends a fair amount of time outside of school drawing/painting, and has a private teacher (to make up for the lack of instruction at school).

You can’t? Crap. I haven’t drawn in the longest.

Does anyone else have anymore info?

@hellohellicopter, wrong.

I’m taking the class and you are allowed to use whatever medium you desire. You can switch whenever you want, although with concentration, it’s better if you stick with one medium.

For breadth, it’s whatever. Half of my breadth section is CGI and the other half is photography.

For me, photography, in itself, is an instinct. My teacher has us do a project per week. I usually finish my project in 10 minutes over the weekend since…I don’t know. So many people ask me how I could do this picture in 10 minutes and I’m like…“I have no clue”. So I’m always in class doing other homework while the drawing/painting kids are working their asses off to finish in time.

In terms of difficulty, again, it depends on if you have talent or skill. When it’s talent, it’s more easier obviously then the one who had to build up skill to where he/she is now.

I’ll post up my portfolio (although not all of it) of what my concentration looks like so far if you want.

So, would it be better if I did drawings along with photography for my breadth? or can I just do photography? Also how many pieces are in a portfolio? 24, right? If you can post your portfolio that would be great.

[Flickr: Sameet A. Ahmed’s Photostream](Sameet A.
Honestly it depends. If you’re a drawer who can draw really well under pressure (in this case a project per week) then you should be fine. And yes, you can just do photography if you want. The AP Board isn’t going to penalize you just for doing one medium.

It’s 12 for breadth, 12 for concentration, and 5 for quality. Quality pieces can be derived from the breath or concentration or from neither. Just from pictures you took awhile ago or something that turned out really good.

Nice pictures! For the quality, would it be better if I did 5 pieces that weren’t from the breadth of concentration? Or it doesn’t matter the slightest bit?
