So I took 3 AP tests last year and am taking 4 this year. Last year’s tests did not go very well (3’s on Comp Sci and Chem, and 2 on Physics 1…)
For this reason, I did not self-report them when I applied via the common app. Now that I am researching it, I think I should have reported them so colleges do not think I got 1’s or didn’t take the tests. I am applying to relatively selective schools: Lehigh, Lafayette, and RPI are the main ones. Should I send an official AP score report to these schools now that I already applied? Thanks
I wouldn’t. For selective colleges, you want to report fours and fives. When you matriculate, that is the time to send your AP scores if colleges will give credit or placement for threes or higher.
Not everyone takes AP tests. Some students can’t afford them. Others miss the test date due to being sick, and it can’t be made up. Others get poor scores. Some high schools don’t require students to take the test. For these reasons, colleges don’t require you to submit AP test scores. There are senior posters on CC who believe that AP tests scores are not even considered by some selective colleges. There is not point drawing attention to something that isn’t a bonus on your app.
I would not send them. The general rule is only self-report if you scored a four or a five, or it may hurt your chances at selective colleges.
Thanks for the replies.
I just hope they don’t assume I got 1’s.
The scores would not strengthen your application (and, in fact, could weaken it) so I agree with the others recommending that you don’t send them.
Thanks for the help
