I have received my AP calculus scores back, i got a 1 on the BC, and a 3 on the AB subscore.

I maintain a 3.85+ GPA and i am entering into my senior year of high school.

The scores were reported to the University of Washington.

It is my understanding that the 3 on the AB subscore is equivalent to a first quarter calculus class, will a college like the UW or a community college grant me credit for the AB subscore?

Also, will getting a 1 on the BC calculus and a 3 on the AB subscore actually hurt my application to the UW? I have extra curriculars, volunteer work, 3.85+ GPA, honors classes, 25 ACT (11/12 writing), 1680 SAT.

I have one year left in high school, is there anything i need to worry about?

Honestly, if I were an adcom and I saw a 1 on the test with an A in the class, I’d figure your school had ridiculous grade inflation and that you’re not truly prepared for college work.

…why did you send your score…? You don’t even know if that’s the school you’ll be attending in the future.

If your grade in the class was high, your AP score might make the admission officers question the rigor of the class, and maybe all your other classes…which would affect how they view your GPA.

Id also like to point out that I have college classes (from a local comm college) on my transcript as well, both classes I received a 3.7 in (a POL sci and a HIST class)

My ACT writing score was 11/12, composite 24 if any of that matters.

I’m ranked one of the top students in my class as far as GPA at my high school goes - we are known to be a harder school when it comes to GPAs.

Your ACT score just compounds what I said earlier–if you’re one of the top students at your school, and your scores are admittedly average (or just the tiniest smallest bit above), then that puts your school and GPA in context, and not a very good one at that.

honestly i have no idea how i got a one on the BC part.

Will most schools at least recognize the 3 subscore on the AB? (College board even states that it is intended to be equal to the AP Exam).

I took the AP AB test for “practice” 10th grade year (in order to do better the next time around) and got a 1, so technically i went from a 1 to a 3 in that time.

I still have one year left in high school too - and if i need to i can retake the class again. (He’s gonna have to be ready to explain this to the staff…3 out of the other five people in my class also got ones, one kind got a 3, and the other a 2).

Just calm down and move on! You might get credit for the AB depending on where you go, obviously not for BC but don’t worry. 1’s are not as bad as half this forum make them out to be esp if you did well in the class itself.

UW has been getting pretty stingy, so I wouldn’t put all your hopes in it. But if they don’t, then you can just retake Calc I for an easier A. I wasn’t aware community colleges took AP credit, though…

Oh, and since you took a few classes at a community college–bear in mind that UW does not accept credits from Bellevue [Community] College. I don’t know about other community colleges, but that I’m sure of. :(

At the very least, colleges HAVE to let me into calc 1 with these scores, correct? (Mainly referring to the AB 3 subscore as it represents a regular AB 3)

i wouldnt worry about your ap test scores at all. my buddy recently got into ucla and berkeley with no higher than a 2 on 5 different ap tests, 1900 on SAT and minimal extracurriculars. blindly reporting your scores to the university probably wasnt the best idea, but i would absolutely not fret. Colleges care little about ap scores reguarding admission, they are most important for class credit
