AP test scores matter?

Hi, this concerns my little brother. He has a high gpa( 4.1+), good ECs and hopefully a good SAT score. The only thing he screwed up, badly might I add, are his AP tests. He got a 1 in chem and a 2 in world history. How would this affect his chances?

i dont think they really check your ap scores...but i may be wrong...can somebody check this?
to my understanding ap scores are just used to determine whether you will get credit or pass out of certain requirements

They might consider it as a proof of how well you did in the subject, because every school's AP class varies in terms of rigor. But it should not be that big of a problem... I took a couple of APs but didn't take the exam for a lot of them and had a 2 for Computer Science - self-study (which is also my major -_-) but I was still admitted lol

Just don't self-report them. But yeah they don't really check or care for the scores.

They go on the app, but I doubt they count against you, only for. But that's just my guess.

It's fine, just don't list them in the section. They care more about the grade you got in the class than you exam score.

Say that he gets 5s on the tests he takes next year. Would it look suspicious if he lists the good scores and omits the bad ones?

^im not sure if he should do that. usually, if you have taken an AP test, you SHOULD report it, regardless of the score. Im not 100% sure about whether this is mandatory, but it makes the most sense.

If your bro is a sophomore he should retake the ones he failed and hope to get better grades to report ...
if he's a junior he should report all his scores regardless...I talked to an admissions officer and they said you should always report your scores because it shows you challenged yourself, even if you get a bad grade, and if you don't report them it'll seem like you have something to hide...they also said it doesn't affect admissions

Anyways i can personally tell u that my horrid AP scores still got me into UCLA... i got 4 two's and my only 3 was an AB subscore...so yea 4 fails and 1 pass i still reported them and I made no BS excuse or anything like that in my application and i still got in xD

I can send u my app if u wanna see it.. ??

@SF333. Thanks that would be very useful. I'm a transfer so I don't know much about freshmen admissions.

AP scores dont matter.
