AP Test Scores when transferring

I will be applying with 30 or less credits for the sophomore level. Do colleges look at AP scores since high school criteria will be looked at? Despite taking a couple AP classes, I did not score so well on them, so should I even send my scores to the college? In case you are wondering, I got 3's on every AP test I took.

I guess it depends on which school you are applying to. If you are applying to a competitive school, then your high school grades are going to be weighted more than your college no matter what. The first year of college (and second, usually) are pretty much all survey courses and all University’s admissions know this. Your course load gets much harder during the end of soph/beginning of junior year, so that is why people who are applying as juniors have there college grades weighted much higher.

If you are applying to a less competitive school, assuming you have a decent college and high school GPA, then I couldn’t see why they wouldn’t accept you. I don’t want to steer you on that bandwagon that GPA is everything, but when your a freshman it does have a lot to do with GPA.

An example would be someone in high school who really wanted to go to University A, worked really hard and earned great GPA, but didn’t get accepted and is now applying as a freshman transfer student. If you are applying to a competitive school those are most likely the kids you are going to be going up against. This is just a thought and doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t apply, but just something to consider. I was in a similar situation freshman year, that Is why I am calling it to your attention because no one really told me that directly. It was more hinted in the fine print.

Hope this makes sense.

What was your transfer experience like?

The process itself was pretty grueling. Going from professors, to academic advisor, student services, and a bunch of other offices, takes a toll on you. Writing all those essays and the applications (I applied to 5 schools, I think). It was also really stressful for me and I spent a lot of time on it. I also didn’t really have any guidance because my old institution was no help and looked down upon me for transferring (CC helped me out a lot though). The overall process was grueling, but now I am happy where I am at, so it was well worth it. Just remember, that transferring to another schools brings a whole set of new problems that you didn’t have at your old school. The grass is always greener on the other side, until you get there.

Don’t let this deter you though, do that you think is right and work hard. Make sure you stay on top of you classes while doing all of this stuff and take advantage of winter break. If you want any more advice or questions you can also PM me. I enjoy helping out people during this difficult time because I know how hard it is. Good luck! It will get better.
