Hi All- Son scored a 4 on Chem; 4 on APUSH; and 3 on English Comp. he is interested in a couple of Ivys. Should he report those scores? If he does not report the 3 will that raise red flags? Thanks
The 4 is ok. He should not report the 3. AP scores may or may not be considered in the admission process, but it depends on the college. Will it raise a red flag? Not necessarily, but it’s possible someone might wonder why it wasn’t reported. If the rest of the application is strong, the lack of AP English score isn’t going to make or break anything.
Colleges that accept AP scores for credit or placement will be more interested in those scores. Ivy League schools, at least, don’t typically use AP scores in admissions because not everyone who takes an AP class can afford to take the exams.
If an admissions officer is sitting there matching AP classes off the transcript to exam scores, he or she is probably already looking for a reason to deny you, maybe looking for confirmation after spotting another red flag on the application. If everything else on the application is looking good, the ideally respectable AP scores you submit don’t move the needle much.
Should add…the 3 shouldn’t be reported to elite and/or highly selective schools.
Thank you guys!
