Are AP test scores actually important in determining your chances of getting admitted to a college, or are they just for determining whether or not you have the skills necessary for taking a college course?

Do colleges just look at the fact that you have taken the AP classes and that you have gotten good grades in them?

in terms of admissions, they primarily look at the AP classes taken and how you've done in them, and the exam grade acts more as a reinforcement. though i guess doing really well in a class and then failing the AP test might raise a red flag on how hard the class actually was.

after you get in, though, then you send your official score report and the colleges might give you credit or move you up to a higher level in the subject.

Ok, thanks, see my problem is that I have taken AP Chem already my junior year, and my senior year I am proceeding to take 4 more AP classes. I am not worried about my grades in these classes, because I should get A-/A or B+ at the lowest. However, I will not be able to submit my AP test scores because it will be too late when I take the exams. That is what I was worried about.

when you take the AP exams in may, you can automatically have those tests scores sent to the school you're going to (since you'll know by then) by filling out a the school's code number. that way, they can look at those scores for the placement/credit/etc. the junior year scores are just something to put on the app, but not really important/a decisive factor.

They do not usually look at your AP scores for college admissions. They were not on dd's transscripts, she did not put them on the app, and she did not send them to any college she was admitted to. Even though she got very good scores.

How do you send in grades from courses that were self-studied? I took the exam in May but had no idea what school I was seriously going to apply to, so I didn't put in any codes.
