AP Test

Hey if we put on our app that we were taking certain test do we have to take those test. I m planning on taking all of the ones I put down except AP Eng Lit because I already took and passed AP Eng Lang. If I don't take it do I have to notify UCLA or should I just not worry about.

just take the test…you’ll thank me later when you have a better class standing for signing up for classes

I had that exact same problem last year.

I took AP Lit but I already got Credit for UCLA for AP Lang. I didn’t take the test and I didn’t report it and it was okay. You’ll be fine. Don’t take the test, it’s a waste of money.

But gatos is right. The more academic standing you have, the more priority you get when it comes to enrolling in classes.

If you don’t do it, is it almost a given it will take more than 4 years to graduate? That was the case for my niece, she did not have any AP credits as i recall, had difficulty getting a required class or two even as a senior, and it took an extra semester to graduate.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-los-angeles/1100063-aps-any-point.html</a> should answer your question.

Academic standing, in a simpler way, is that you get the most units out of AP’s that you can. If your case was just like mine, we got 8 unit credits for LANG and the most you can get is 8 units for the all of the AP English. “English (8 unit max for both exams)”

The only point in taking the LIT test is if you got a 3 in LANG and you only got waiver off for Entry Writing (EW). Then I would suggest you to take the LIT to try to get waiver out of Writing 1 (W1) Which is English Comp 3 when you get to UCLA.

Entry Writing just means you have sufficient amount of English to get INTO ucla…i think or something along those lines

Writing 1 (Eng Comp 3) is proficient writing for UCLA

Writing 2 (In UCLA) Is what you have to complete in order to graduate for the College of Letters and Science. I think it’s like that with all the other colleges in ucla too.

Here’s the resources [AP Credit - College of Letters and Science - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions](http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/APCreditLS.htm)

so it wont help if I passed AP Eng Lang with a 4???

The other thing I wanted to know was how much AP Credits will really help with graduating in less than 4 years… I ve heard that for my major, poly sci, it is doable, but I wanted to know if there are any current students who had passed through UCLA in 4 years or less with or without AP credit…

If you passed AP English Language with a 4, there isn’t really a point to taking the AP English Literature test in May.

If you passed AP Lang with a 4, you waive off the EW and the W1 so it would seem like a waste if you took the LIT test. I had the EXACT same position. I got a 4 and i didnt’ take the LIT and im fine and im a south campus (science) major.

You’re a north campus, and a poli sci…you’ll be fine in terms of graduating within four years with or without the AP credits. Trust me! I could’ve graduated in 4 years too if I didnt take any AP units and still be in a science major. You need to stop worrying and start worrying about the financial budget cuts and see if your family can financially afford UCLA with the budget cuts.
