I said on my applications I planned to take AP Physics, AP Calc, AP Gov and AP Lit exams. However, I can now only take two: AP Calc and AP Gov. Should I inform colleges about this decision? I am applying to UCs and many privates in Engineering (EECS).

Or am I just paranoid about getting rescinded?

As long as you didn’t give a score corresponding to an AP you have not taken, I doubt it should hurt you. After admission the UCs will double check your scores reported vs the scores Collegeboard has on your file. If it involves your transcript, then when the UCs scroll through your official transcript they’ll find that the AP was never taken as a class. Shouldn’t jeopardize you too much, but it wouldn’t hurt in telling them upfront. Also…it depends if you reported a grade. If you did…that’s a big problem

The scores don’t even come out until after you have graduated and your final transcript has been sent to the places that you applied to. The numbers themselves are only meaningful then if the college/university that you are planning to attend will use them for credit or course placement. At this point, unless your high school specifically requires that you take the exams because of your high school’s policies, it would be perfectly fine for you to not take a single one of them.

Agree with happymomof1. It won’t make any difference regarding an admission decision whether or not you take any AP exams.
