My dtr took her first AP class as a junior and has been strugggling with it. She has about a 75 average at this point (normally an A- student). Should she still plan on taking the AP Test at the end of the year or will a bad score on the test hurt her chances to get in to a college? Her AP class is Psychology.

I would say yes, she should plan to take the test. My own daughter got a B in AP US History, but a 5 on the exam. I don’t know how her class is set up, but it seems the APs my D has been in require more time commitment than she was used to. It took some work, much more work than expected. So perhaps, with some work, she can get her grade up and do well on the exam. She likely needs to recalibrate in her head how much time she should work on the course, but given you have 3/4 of the year left, plenty of time to get the grade up and get ready for the exam.

Thanks for the info! I’ll try to get her the AP review book & flashcards as well. JC

I don’t think you can judge yet. You have months before you need to make the decision. That said, my son had a B in bio, and was close to a C, and got a 5 on the AP test, with no studying. He was a strong tester in general, if that matters.
