So far, I have noticed that none of the colleges require AP test results to be sent in. That brings up a question: what is the relation between AP tests and colleges, other than the possibility of getting credit for some courses in some colleges?

Also, how does one go about getting that credit? Does one need to submit the scores with the application in order to get credit or can one submit the scores to a college after acceptance?

all colleges have different policies in granting credit to Advanced Placement exams. And no, you need not (I like using this phrase. is this grammatically correct?) send the official AP scores. You only send them after you're accepted.

There are a handful of colleges that require the applicants to self report the AP examination scores, namely the top 10 colleges. Although many argue (or at least I've witnessed in CC) that AP scores aren't taken into account during the admission process. I believe this is wrong. Why would one ask for something if they serve no purpose? Even in the book, "A is for Admissions," the author suggests that AP scores may sometimes be weighted more than SATII scores.
