Hi everyone,

So, long story short, I'm in 10th grade at my school and taking regular American government. My teacher wanted me to switch out of the regular class and into AP U.S. government class, but my schedule couldn't be switched around, so I'm staying in the regular class. I asked him about self-studying a class and he strongly advised against it, saying that I could "probably do it as a junior or senior, but not as a sophomore."

So, my question is: Should I try to self-study? Is it too late in the semester?

If you've self-studied AP U.S. government, can you give me a good suggestion about a textbook and review book to use?

I'd kind of like to start studying now if I decide to do it.

Thanks in advance for your help!!

I would self-study. I don't think that it is too late and probably makes the most sense for you to do it now as you are taking the regular government class. I would ask the AP teacher if you could take the tests that he gives to the AP class. I would recommend that you use Princeton's AP U.S. Government prep book.

Thanks very much ilovesoftball44!

Anyone else have any recommendations for me?

Have you taken APUSH? If you haven't, then I agree with your teacher.
Selfstudy that after junior or senior year, when you have already taken the APUSH. And then it'd be a lot easier to selfstudy APUSG.

Hey Ryan 1119, I'm taking APUSH right now as a sophomore. Do you think it's a good idea to self study APUSG at the same time that I'm taking APUSH?

Also, thanks for your response!

Anyone else have any input or tips?

Yes, it's good for you to study USH and USG at the same time.

I second Ryan, since you are taking APUSH you should have no problem with AP US Gov.

Thanks very much ilovesoftball44 and Ryan1119!
