AP U.S Government- Self Study

Hi,
So I'm taking two other AP tests, but I'm also taking the class for those subjects. I was planning on self-studying for the U.S Gov exam this May. My plan was mainly to cram a couple of weeks before the test. But my question is.. WHEN should I start studying?! I heard you're not supposed to start too early since you might forget a lot. I mainly want to study just to get about a 3 or 4 on the test. It's almost mid-March, so I was thinking about starting soon. What's your advice?
Another question is: What book should I use to self-study? I want something that will pretty much only cover what might be on the exam.
Thank you soo much. I really need this advice :)

I took an online course for government for my first semester of my senior year and now we are just reviewing. If you are planning to take the government test I would start studying right now. For all my other AP classes we are going to be reviewing hardcore in the beginning of April, but since you are doing self-study and I’m guessing you haven’t learned the course fully it would be best to begin studying now! As for a book to cover what will be on the exam I’m not sure. There are a lot of good websites out there with practice test and good vocabulary available to you for free. So google would be a good search engine to use to search for these. Good luck in May!

You should really use the 5 Steps to a 5 book for AP Gov.! I just bought it yesterday at the recommendation of my APUSH teacher, and it really is helpful. The same terms and definitions from the textbook consolidated into a really helpful prep book, with plenty of review questions. I love it.
