Currently I’m in regular history but I seem to be doing very well. Is it a good idea to take the AP exam if I didn’t take the class and still have to pay to take it? If I use a study book would I be okay? I would start studying now
If you’re really interested and motivated in history then it is possible to do good in APUSH, but just know that APUSH is no where near the difficulty of regular history. I was doing great in regular history until I bumped up to APUSH and it is really hard (part of the reason why they called it that). Also the AP Exam is changing this year so there are no previous multiple choice or frqs to really base off of for studying. I kinda of regret taking APUSH this year as part of this change, but I do have a great teacher to prepare me for the exam. I would recommend trying to do lots of practice problems and talking to an APUSH teacher at your school if you have one before purchasing the exam. If you do end up purchasing the exam you better study really hard and know your stuff really well. I like that you’re planning to self study an AP (I was planning on self studying APUSH if I didn’t get into the class, so I know how you feel). Overall I say that if you are really great at history and love it (maybe want to major in it) then you should self study it. Or else it will be difficult task to get even a 3. Good luck on your choice and let me know how it goes.
