I’m considering taking APUSH next year as a junior. To anyone who has or is taking the class, how is it? i.e. how much work is there (I know this varies), what do you do, what is it about, etc.
The class can be hard at times (depends on the school) but its an overall pretty good class. I would definitely recommend it. The workload can be tedious at times and the essays can be kind of challenging if you haven’t had previous experience. On average I spend about 45 mins a night on it (my teacher assigns a lot of notes). As for study methods, I go on Quizlet a lot and it’s very helpful. I also read over my Prep Book (you should probably get one if you take the class). Overall, I think it’s a really good class, not overly difficult (unless you hate history).
APUSH is a pretty easy class in my school, however the most important thing is making time for the class. There is a lot of information that you have to cover and most of that information has to be studied outside of the class. Most of the work that we do is just taking notes in class and reading the chapter at home. I get A+'s in that class despite me doing the bare minimum needed for the class, but it all really depends on how well you retain the information.
Like a previous poster said, this class might not be for you if you don’t like history all that much. Personally, I’m a math-science guy, and I have next to zero drive to do my APUSH work because it simply isn’t interesting to me. I’m sure once we get into more recent history the course will be more interesting.
This being said, if you like and/or do well in history, by all means take the class. I’m just giving you my personal situation.
Generally APUSH is pretty hard. At my school it isn’t too bad. If you’ve taken AP World or Euro then you should be fine and used to the DBQs, FRQs etc.
IMO, Ap euro is harder than APUSH in my school but APUSH has a lot of FRQs and DBQs and essays which you might hate if you hate history. It will definitely take more than 1 hour per day in my school at least.
