I signed up for it my junior year and have been advised by previous AP U.S. History students not to take it. I want to get an opinion from people here and see if I should switch to just honors US.

I did the course on my own -- I actually take Honors History -- and thought it was a nice exam. It was just a few more chapters I had to do on my own to take the AP test, and though I don't know how "hard" the class is, I can say that it wasn't that much work for me at least. I'm expecting a 4-5 on the AP exam. So yeah, I'd say: take it.

Im taking it next year (Junior year) too :)

ap us history is mainly memorizing mixed with common sense. Personally, didn't find the course hard at all. I reccommend using a prep book like REA in conjunction with the text, as it may be a little hard to understand at times.
I advise you to take the course
Good luck

A lot of it IS common sense. The multiple choice question, mostly, are so that you could eliminate 3-4 if you know the time period well, and knowing basic time periods isn't as hard as it is in Euro or World history -- US history covers only 300 to 400 years.

I took it and found it quite easy. However, I am assuming that your info is coming from students at your school, who know your particular teacher. Only they know if he's really awful. If the teacher is simply bad because the students aren't prepared for the test, then I definitely think it's feasable to study on your own in conjunction with the class and do well. However, if he is exceedingly mean, or gives out no A's or something...perhaps you should consider taking honors. But I would recommend going for AP.

The exam isn't that hard.

Try to find out from APUSH students at your school how hard the class was, what they had to do, what the teacher was like, etc., etc.

At some schools it can be really easy and fun. At others it can be hell. :D

I took APUSH this year, and I did not find the course to be terribly hard. The exam was also easier than I expected it to be. I do agree that it is a combination of memorization and common sense.

I am a sophomore, and AP US History was my first AP class. I really liked the class, even though the readings could get lengthy. I think you should take it.

i loved apush....it was awesome.

seriously though, really challenging but engaging class

i liked apush but my teacher was pretty easy, like no outlines. if its a lot of work i wouldnt do it.

As long as you keep a good study/work ethic, which as a good student you should anyway, AP US History, or any course for that matter, should not be hard. Study = succeed (does not completely apply to college admissions).

Dude...it's not a joke. Day of silence symbolizes the end of homophobia. Focus! It is very simple to comprehend. If proud GSAers stay silent for 6 hours, no one will ever have any prejudice against gays. Understand. That's why everyone respects Meggie and her cute mohawk.
