I really really like the class and I'm definetly a math oriented person. My teacher makes history interesting to learn and it's unfortunate that so many of you guys don't have teachers like him.

Are all your teachers AP graders? My teacher is.

HA are we now bragging about history teachers?
Well, this one's MINE:
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2004/10/images/20041019-18_preservea5bu9808-515h.html

hehe I don't think there was ever a class I hated more than APUSH. good luck with that one

our grading scale sucks the most...

90-100 A
80-89 B

e.t.c., with appropriate minuses at the x2 and x7 marks

no curve whatsoever

and i just got a D+ on a major exam...after two consecutive A's, ya, its horrifying to get one's first D

i loved apush. my teacher was awesome and the most laid back guy. he also graded really easy and didn't make the class tough at all. we had alot of time to chat in class and screw around. it was awesome.

All I have to say is, everything I learned about DBQs and essays in that class was a bunch of bull*****. My teacher basically didn't really like me and determined prehand that I would suck at the class since I didn't speak up much. She was really really tough on the DBQs and essays, almost too tough. When it came down to the real AP, the essays were the easiest part, the multiple choice is what was more difficult because of the things we never got to cover (post 1960s+).

It's a GREAT class, I loved it... but I don't think I neccessarily learned much about DBQs or essays in it. I had my own kind of writing anyway. Just know how to organize and present your ideas and you should be fine.

Our grading scale was 92-100 A
85-91 B
.. C.. get dropped.

.. and I still got a 5 on the AP test. Don't sweat it! Also, there's a GREAT AP US 40 page study guide online somewhere. That's what I used to study and it was great.

Last year I only had one AP class which was APUSH, this year I have 3. As of right now, last year was much harder than this year because my stupid APUSH teacher hated me for wanting to do well and marked down my essays for no reason. Talking to her didn't help either because she would just say she didn't like it (that really helps when you are trying to prepare of an AP exam). I never got higher than a 6 on my DBQs. Her favorites almost always got 8s and 9s. Needless to say, none of her students made a 5 last year because the ones working hard didn't get enough guidence and the ones she liked didn't realize that they weren't doing as well as their grades suggested. End Rant.

I still made an A in the class but it was a lot of work. Also this year I have AP classes in my field of interest mainly math and science.

You guys are exxagerating. AP US is teh easy!
I slept in class literally every single day, not "put my head on desk and close eyes sleep", I slept the kind of dead sleep that requires "a large bucket of water as well as a stupid class laughing at you and a teacher shaking you vigourously before asking whether you have mono or not" to awaken from. Bet Sigurd can't wake me out of my dead log sleeps.

Anyway, the point is that I got an A+ (97+) both semesters and a 5 on the AP test, while taking 4 other APs. Its not that hard, all you have to do is make a chart of dates and events, then do some nice BSing, and woopah! lovely essay. Don't spend ages memorizing esoteric details, just get the big picture.

For Great Justice!

Your teachers are lame with those curve scales. My teacher is really hard and uses the standard grading scale with no curves. The material itself isnt hard and i will get a 5 most likely, but she integrates obscure facts that would never be on the AP test. I hate competing against you f***ers with easy teachers.

it was the same thing with ap european ugh................

Hang in there! I was in AP USH last year and it was hard. We averaged over an essay a week up until the test in May - so it is a lot of hard work. But you don't have to be super stellar to get a 5. I had a B+ final avg (88 for the year) and I still got a 5. If you can get a 55 raw score on the MC and get 6s on your DBQ and two FR essays, then you get a 5. And of course you can definitely improve upon that.

My advice to you is to write a TON on the actual essays. I wrote a total of 10 pages for the three essays on the test - 4 for the DBQ and 3 for each free response. A great thing my teacher told me was to use an ending "concession" paragraph on the DBQ. When you get a prompt look at the documents and you will tend toward one point of view on the question (agree/disagree; social reforms affected greatly/affected somewhat; etc.). However, not all the docs will support your position - there will usually be two/three that support the other position. Right before your conclusion add the "concession" paragraph citing these docs and other outside info - the more outside info you have the better.
