AP United States History

I was wondering what is the best prep book for the AP test for US History and for the SAT II for US History.

Rea
7 6 5 4 3 2 1

definitely do NOT get Barrons

i agree, barron is just BAD..... princeton review is ok....

Barron makes you feel stupid. The book has specific questions that will never be asked on the test. But.. if you can do Barrons you can garentee a 5 on the test without a doubt.

US History AP is easy.. i got a 5

get Amsco for review, REA for practice tests.

second ryan.
don't listen to people who tell you AP US History is easy. Yeah, if you study hard and know the material inside out, it's easy, but if you don't thinking it's gonna be easy anyways, it's gonna be hard.

best_wr is right. I only found it easy becuase due to the fact that i had to kill 3 birds with one stone. I had to do the SAT II, AP Test, and NYC Regents for American History. Perfect Scores on all though.. 800, 5, and 100.

...REA...rocks

I used Princeton Review the last week of review. On the day before the test, I did the 600 Sparknote flash cards, which were pretty effective.

REA= el amazino (don't speak Spanish if you can believe it)

REA = god (better comparison, think i got 5 on the 2005 test due to it)

my teacher recommended REA, and while it was good in some respects, such as good detail, it addressed a lot of extraneous topics ie elections and wars, two topics you DO NOT need to know for the AP or SAT 2. What i would recommend is read the REA w/o the elections and the wars (unless you have a personal interest in them) and then read the princeton review, which i think is good for a broader more thematic view.

btw did anyone who read princeton review think it was kind of lame how at the end when they got to recent history they basically just said "we're too lazy to put it in here so we won't bother."

Actually there was a question on the 2005 test about an election and a state..I know there was. And results of wars are on the test. Just read REA man, and read all of it. It's only like 260 pages. Majority rules.

the results of elections and wars are different than knowing the actual details of the election or actual battles. you should know information such as who won the battle 1812 of course, and about what happened in the election of 1876 but you will never be asked a question of the Battle of Shiloh. the details about elections and wars you will need to know are those essential to understanding US history and these will be covered in the other sections.

thank you

oh and if there's a question about the revolutionary war the answer is Saratoga.

REA= best for practice tests (although some questions are weird). I agree that this book contains too much irrelevant info.

AMSCO= best for review of content. This is THE book.

also something interesting i noticed. i took all 5 tests in the sparks notes SAT 2 US test book and then read princeton review. i seemed to me that the sparks notes questions came right out of the princeton review book. anybody else notice this?

:] I bought a KAPLAN AP US History book. >/ It seems good to me. :/ ^_^;;; I'll tell you what I think after I take couple oo;;; quizzes from it. :]]

amsco=life
