We've started forecasting for senior year and I'm currently deciding which of the above two courses to take. I already have one semester of AP US Gov (from JSA summer school - 1 month) and Government studies are what interest me most. However, with one semester of US Gov already on my transcript, will it seem repetitive to be taking Gov again as a senior? The other option would be to take AP Euro, and while I've heard the class is both interesting and enriching, I simply don't have the same zeal for history that I have for govt/politics.

I would say take AP US Gov. If it's waht you really like, you'll probably be better off taking it. It's better to take something and excel, because you're interested, than do mediocre because the calss can't keep your focus. And having two US Gov classes may show colleges that it's your real passion, and it may be easier for you to get into a top-tier school as a Poli Sci major, or something long those lines.

If you have the option, and you like Gov better, definitely take Gov. I like Gov more, and my class is great - it's good to know who'll be teaching you, too, since a bad teacher would ruin that kind of class, either one. :]

I took AP Euro soph. year, and I thought the class was pretty tough and mainly memorization. I got a 3 on the AP test (Only two people in our school got 4's...and that teacher had been teaching the class for years...don't know what happened. Everyone else got 3's or 2's...mostly 2's.)

I took government last semester, and i LOVED it! Such an amazing class, more of an understanding concepts/workings rather than pure memorization.

I'm taking APUSH (similar to euro) and AP US Govt.

APUSH is so much harder, and it's not very exciting (at least from the pre-1920 times).

Govt, however, is a very fun class. We debate all the time in that class about current events, and even though it is very work intensive (maybe more for me since it's a semester long), it's more enjoyable than APUSH.

However, if you can take AP Comparative Government, you should take that. Comparative is so much more interesting since you learn about other governments and their institutions rather than that of the US.

Anyway, Euro and Gov't are both easy APs. You can BS the US Gov't test and get a 5. I know people who did this.

As for me, I'd pick Euro over US Gov't. Euro had a much more interactive teacher than Gov't back in the day.

I also love politics, and AP Gov was awesome...
but I'm taking Euro this year and it's incredible...so much more of it is about politics and government then you'd think. The APs histories are focused more on political and less on military history...so in a lot of ways, it's like an extensive overview of political history from 1400 until the present!!!
So...both classes are great...I guess, go with your gut!

Take AP Government if you are more interested in it. Colleges do not care what much what electives you take if they comparable in level as long as you do well in them.

I took AP Euro this year and I thought it was a blast. I had 1 teacher first semester that was horrible (he teaches APUSH but there were so many kids taking Euro he had to teach 1 class of that too), but my second semester teacher was amazing. The other kids in my class didn't think it was that great though and cheated like half the year on all the big chapter tests. He found out rofl and like 2 kids got expelled since they went on his comp and stole the files. We had to retake all those tests in one massive 1800 point test :S :S. It actually worked out for me though because I set the curve roffle and ended up ranked first with a 98%.
