AP US History DBQ

Question: On the DBQ, do you have to use all the documents to get a good score? Is there a minimum they say you must use?

You don’t need to use them all, but you should try to use as many as you can use effectively.

You should use as many of them as you can…would avoid skipping more than one or two.

Only don’t use it if you don’t have any idea what it’s saying [this usually happens more with charts/pictures]. If it disagrees with your thesis/argument/whatever just include it as evidence that not everyone agreed.

E.G. Writing an essay arguing that FDR’s New Deal was effective, you have a document that is a letter from Huey Long. You know Long was a critic of the New Deal, so you can include it like: “However, while the New Deal helped millions of people, it had its share of critics. One such detractor was Huey Long, who often publicly criticized the New Deal as too ineffectual and cautious [Document #].”

Don’t just ignore a Document, but if you have no idea what it’s saying, it’s probably better to leave it out then misinterpret it.

I see. Thank you!
