AP US History Question

So next year, I will be a junior. I am currently in Earth/Space Science, Youth Leadership, AP World History, Health, Spanish III. It is very, very easy. Last semester I had American Lit, PE, Chem (Part A was AP), and Algebra II. I currently have around a 3.6 cumulative GPA.

*Before you continue, CIS means college in the schools - it is an advanced program, but you do not have to test out of it like in an AP class.

Next year I want to take the following courses: CIS Animal Science, CIS Plant Science, AP Statistics, Youth Leadership, Biology, CIS Advanced Public Speaking -OR- a literature course, College Prep Composition, Agricultural Economics, Spanish IV, and I have to take a US History course. So I originally planned on doing CIS US History, but today, they said regular US History was required prior to doing AP. I love US History, and I think that it is fasciating. I want to be an ag teacher when I grow up.

So, should I do APUSH or regular US History? I am worried that I will overwhelm myself, but I am interested in US History, as I said. How much homework is there in that class? What makes it easy or hard to do? Finally, on average, how much homework/studying is required to succeed? Thanks.

When I took APUSH the homework wasn’t difficult. There was just a lot of it.You have to write 2 pages of notes for every 10 pages you read from the text book. If you can manage your time you will have no problem. Or you can end up like me and read 50 pages and take 10 pages of notes in one night. It all depends on if you can organize yourself and stick to a schedule.

Apush isn’t very difficult. I actually had to learn everything on my own because my teacher taught us basically nothing. As long as you have your trusty amsco book with you, I think you’ll do great. I read the whole book through like 3 times and ended up with a 5 on the AP test.

It all really depends on the teacher you get and the workload he/she assigns. I’ve had friends who literally had nothing to do in the class, but were screwed by the time exams rolled around. On the other hand, at my school APUSH is considered one of the hardest classes because of our awesome teacher, and our readings can take anywhere from 1-3 hours per night. My advice would be to ask others who have taken the class already how much work the class had.

At my school you get no homework from APUSH. It is all up to you to fully read the chapters and outline. Test and quizzes are also weighed heavily. If you somewhat enjoy history and have strong study skills I would recommend you take it.

It truly varies based on the teacher, my teacher regularly gives 6+ hours of homework a week, but it is weighted heavily so if you do all the work an A is rather possible. Your best bet would be to talk to people who are currently in the class.
