I just finished my history textbook and AMSCO and am starting to review. Do you really need to know the more modern events? If not, when do you stop? Reagan? Clinton? Also is it ok to not spend as much time on the actual wars, themselves?

I think stopping with Clinton you would be safe

For wars you probably need to know the dates, maybe not exact ones. The opponents, the causes, the results.

There are typically only about 3 or 4 questions from the post-Reagan era. Also, you don't really need to know about battles, instead focus on the social effects of wars.
