<p>Sacco and Vanzetti were two anarchist Italian immigrants. They were accused of theft and murder, but they argued in defense that they were just being racially discriminated against. After a very long trial, they were both executed.</p>

<p>The two were very similar: both were composed of disillusioned post-war writers who aggregated to create a large counterculture movement.</p>

<p>new immigrants around the turn of the century were from eastern and southern europe. they didnt speak english, had different forms of gov't, very different culture than old immigrants from western europe like the brits who had similiar culture w/ america.</p>

<p>the secretary of state (i cant remember who it was) issued the ostend manifesto which stated that a certain amount of money should be offered to spain for cuba, and if spain refused, the united states could take it forcibly. something like that.</p>

<p>The 'New South' was used to describe the South new role in America (no longer relying on agriculture and now becoming a part of industrial America). It contrasts with the 'Old South' of the antebellum period, which was characterized by slavery, cotton, and the planter class. (someone else can add to this/correct it, too...)</p>

<p>Watergate was a Democratic committee place(?). Some people from Nixon's administration were caught breaking in to plant recorders for spying and ... stuff. Nixon and his buddies tried to cover it up, which led to all sorts of trials, jailings, and impending impeachment.</p>

It was never proven that Nixon was involved but the scandal ultimate ly led to Nixon's resignation. Agnew (his VP) also resigned becausr he recieved bribes as governor of Maryland.
