AP US History

Hello all,

Would it be plausible to self-teach myself AP US History? I took AP World History my sophmore year so I am very familiar with writing DBQs, COT, and camparisons. I am planning on taking the SAT II for US History as well (history is one of my stronger subjects), I was just wondering if this would be a good idea (I am aiming for a 4-5). Any advice or opinions would be great, thanks.

The Best Piece of Advice I Would Say is START NOW RIGHT AWAY.
j/k but really you should start soon.

But yeah AP US should be plausible to self study for. Get a review book and maybe a textbook. It'll be helpful. Also a defintely helpful thing will be flashcards from Barroons so helpful.

It shouldn't be too hard. You really want to study 1760-1914 the most cuz that the major part of the exam. For the essays I would say write a lot. Like once every week. The DBQ is different from World in that you have to bring in outside info. And same thing for the other essays. Lots of Outside Info.

I second the above post. Definitely start studying now. I recommend that you get AMSCO and REA. Also, if they have APUSH at your school, maybe you can ask to borrow a textbook and have the teacher look at your essays. Good Luck :)

Thanks for the advice, very much appreciated. I am going to start studying this weekend (I already started studying SAT II USH last month).

Wow....good luck. AP US History is the downfall of many of the top students at D's hs....very tough class/test. However, she hangs out mostly with science/math nerds.....if history is your thing, it will be much easier for you to self-study for. Have fun with it!!!

i would start studying as soon as possible and i wouldnt concentrate too heavily on anything after the 1970s.....and also remember that the dbq for us history is different from the dbq for world history because outside information is mandatory for the us dbq.
