AP US History?

I’m debating on wether to take AP US History or Honors US History. My friends say that AP isn’t really that hard and that I should take it. However, I have never been great in history, and I think that AP will be a lot of work.
Typically, how much work is AP US? How many hours of self study are there? What kind of work will be given out? In your opinion, which course should I take?
Thanks a lot!

At my school, the APUSH student experience varies based greatly on which teacher you have. My experience as a bit of a history buff is that it’s one of my easiest classes this year, and I have a test average between 92 and 96. I love APUSH, taking it over honors is the best decision that I’ve made in a long time. I think my sophomore history teacher would’ve lynched me if I didn’t take AP though to be honest. :D

Well in my school, the APUSH course is basically this: read book, take notes, test, repeat.
We usually get tested every week on 1-3 chapters on average. 2 days per chapter. It’s not hard in my opinion, just a lot of reading and note taking. But we do stay up late a lot because of the abundant amount of reading.

for my experience, my school is on a block schedule and APUSH is rigorous T.T. Term 1 - AGONIZING!!! I have to read 4 chapters from the American Pageant per week on average for the first term. During that term, I had to stay up till like 1:00 or 2:00 am to finish a chapter. When first term is over, the class have covered 30 chapters.

Second term - since it’s 12 chapters left now, the workload is just usually 1 or 2 chapters. However, we focused on writing DBQ for this term.

So, if you have a traditional schedule, you might have lighter workload than I have first term. But it all depends on the APUSH teacher.

Its actually been surprisingly fun. My teacher is cool and has a lot of cool stories about life. One of the funny things he does is bash on all the women (in the book and in class) until we get to the time period where women gain more rights. As far as the reading we usually do 1 chapter a week sometimes 2 and we occasionally have a writing assignment. My favorite part of the class is the notes are optional so I rarely take any.

I really like APUSH as well. History is not my strong subject (I’m a math person), so I definitely spend a lot of time on the reading and it can be really challenging at times… but I’d still say it’s worth it! A lot of it depends on the teacher though… so I would ask around at school and find out how the teacher is.

thanks guys.
I think I’ll go with APUSH now.
