I know you have to use half plus one of the documents, but do you get more points for using more documents correctly?

Thanks in advance.

Of course you do. The more the better, but just don't rely too much on documents. If you can write like 4 pages I would think you should use like 3/4 of the documents if you can find enough to support your essay. But it's perfectly possible to get a 9 with a shorter essay that has only half+1 of the documents

Also if you use any of the sources incorrectly they don't count those, and then you don't even qualify for the one half + 1, so you should have some extras just in case

how do you use them correctly? Directly cite them or implicatively?

Say document A was about a man talking to a women about ducks fifty years ago. Then your document usage would be something like this:
"...Even in the mid 20th century, men discussed ducks avidly wityh their wives and other female companions (Doc A)."

And half+1 document, I was a told, is a regents rule (which is a new york standardized test that non-AP students concern themselves with (and I tried to make that as not-elitist as possible). My teacher said to try to use all, because it would be more feasible to get a 9 that way (I believe one of the criterion is document usage).

yea, I used all of my documents last year..

Do you guys recommend writing only 5 paragraphs, or as much paragraphs as needed? In the tests in school I just usually write as much paragraphs as I need, no real steady or rounded structure, and I manage to usually get an 8-9. Would you guys recommend to follow a 5 paragraph structure, or just stick with whatever has been working? Also, how much space do we get to write in?

does anyone have a link to the dbq scoring guidelines? i remember in world history you needed to bring up missing voices and stuff like that, but do you need to do that for the APUSH dbq?

no, you dont have to do that for apush.

how long are your dbqs normally? or what is a good number

our teacher tells us to use all the documents minus 2.

try to use all of the documents if you can

Yep....6/8 or 8/10 for a good score.

Wow I think I only cited like 3 documents today. My APUSH teacher told me that the AP doesn't tell it's graders to look for document count.

Not to be a downer or anything, but my APUSH teacher is an actual reader for the AP, and he has always told us to use half + one, more if we can.

it's a "document based question"...you have to use the documents...of course they are going to take in consideration that you used less than half
