My daughter is currently a sophomore in high school and she is taking Spanish 3 at the local community college (it's prerequisite requires 2 years worth of high school Spanish). She was wondering if she should continue to take the fourth level at the community college or take the AP course at her high school. Which one holds more weight on college applications? I thought the college course would trump an AP score, but we're not sure.

I don't one would be better than the other when you're looking just at whether you can get into a certain college or not. But I would think the AP course, if your daughter takes the AP test along with it, would be easier to get credit at a college than the CC class.

AP courses tend to be harder than CC but you never know. That's why there're AP tests to standardize levels of understanding. I suggest she take either class and just take the test.

In my experience, the AP course is definitely more difficult than the CC course. I would expect that the AP course and a good score (4-5 depending on where she is planning to apply) would look better than the CC course. :)
