AP vs. College class

All right, so here's my situation: After spending a year in AP Language, in which I regularly broke the multiple choice curve by ten or twenty points, I decided that AP Lit, the senior English class at my school, probably wouldn't be much of a challenge. I studied for AP Lit and took the test this year, and in its place, I'm going to a nearby four-year college for my English class. I'm doing this because I expect writing to be an integral part of my career, not just my time in college, and an AP class that is taught only for the AP test does not allow for much more than fire drill writing. I think that in the end, I have more to gain from thoughtful, researched writing, which I would not get out of AP Lit.

My question, then, is this: When I apply, how do you think a college will regard my English class? Do you think it could be less impressive than an AP? I know I'm hurting my grade point average since an AP is weighted at my school but a college class is not. I can't do anything about it now, and I don't think that I want to, anyway. I'm just curious to know what you all think. Did I make a dumb move?

That's actually pretty impressive. I think, especially if you do well, you'll be regarded higher. That's definitely a step beyond AP and more into the realm of truly challenging yourself. =]

I think colleges will regard it better.

I'm glad you guys think so. I just hope I get a chance to explain my reasoning so that they don't see that my school offers AP Lit and think I opted out for some other reason.
