AP vs College classes

What does U of M, and other top colleges, prefer or find more appealing on a college résumé? Taking an AP class or taking a college class locally

When I’ve talked to admissions reps they said it doesn’t really matter, but make sure your credits from a local college will transfer to UofM, many don’t

Dual-enrollment college classes generally have to have an equivalent at your target university. For instance, taking algebra at a community college will not give you any credit at UM because UM does not offer regular (not linear) algebra. A high score on an AP test will give you direct credit for the UM equivalent. Some universities will give placement and not credit (so you still have to take the same number of credit hours)
