are they worth the same? If I could take courses at a local college do I still need APs?

Yes, but don't take bio at the college and bio ap in high school. You can just take the test after the college class. At least that's what I have done. But I still take AP classes.

yeah, don't take the same course at college and hs, the junior I know was sort of deranged and took all her courses twice ?? seems like an obvious waste of time/energy

I've always been told by teachers + counselors that APs are more heavily weighted, but not by much at my school at least.

It depends on the college. I mean, my high school's few AP courses are very challenging, more than the local CSU school and the local community colleges. I don't know if colleges see that or not, but I personally (from experience) have found AP courses more challenging than college courses.

would it still be better to take the AP test (not course) after a college course? Or would it be a waste of $85?

Probably a waste cuz you'll probably get credit at the college anyway.
