AP vs Dual Enrollment

Hi Everyone!

I am 16 years and going into 11 grade, I am seeking advice on whether I should continue taking my AP courses at my high school or if I should do dual enrollment at my local community college.

My goal is to get accepted by a top Law School such as Harvard.

I am not sure as to how beneficial it will be for me to do dual enrollment over my AP classes. Any and all advice is appreciated.

Usually, it depends on the schools you’re gunning for and the program you’re doing dual enrollment with.
But since your goal is Harvard, I’d say definitely continue with AP classes.
In my experience, AP courses are generally more trusted by top colleges because of the fact that credit is given by passing a standardized exam, whereas dual credit is much more subjective. IIRC Harvard doesn’t allow transfer credit from high school dual credit programs either. AP courses are also typically more difficult/rigorous.
However, there can be some advantages to taking college courses instead of AP. I have a sophomore friend who took Cal 1, 2, and 3 at a local university over the course of the summer and this most recent year instead of taking AP Calculus AB at the school. This wasn’t dual enrollment, but it got him much further than just taking an AP class for a full year.

Thanks for your reply.

I am in an AP Capstone program in High School.

The AP courses I was planning to take are as follows;

US History
Seminar
English Literature
Psychology

The dual enrollment courses I was considering at my local community college are as follows;

Computer & Internet Literacy
Health Fitness
Intro to Public Speaking
Elementary Italian 1
Psychology
English 1
College Algebra
Art Appreciation
