My family and I just moved from Georgia to Florida. The high school that I will be attending in Florida offers both AP and IB classes. The high school I went to in Georgia only offered AP courses, so I was not in the pre-IB program as a freshman. As I will be a sophomore, this is my only chance to be entered into the IB program. However, I have concerns as to whether or not colleges prefer IB vice AP. Do they have a preference? (Particularly the Ivies and Georgia colleges; I do not plan attending UF or any other Florida colleges) By being in the IB program, would I appear more attractive to colleges than if I only took AP courses? Finally, if I don't join the IB program, will that make me less attractive because my school offered it but I chose the AP pathway?

Thank you!

You probably should consider Florida public schools, since they are likely to be significantly less expensive than Georgia public schools for you.

Regarding AP versus IB, consider which subjects the AP courses and the IB HL (higher level) courses are offered in and how they match your interests. Also consider that IB has a relatively rigid curriculum, while non-IB students tend to have more latitude in choosing which level of course to take for different subjects. IB has a reputation of being a lot of work.

Search or post in the IB forum. <a href=“International Baccalaureate (IB) - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/international-baccalaureate-ib/ There have been lots of threads about this question. Some people love IB while others regret having chosen it.

IB is tougher to cram, so I think it’s better. Colleges definitely like both, but I assume at least some adcomms agree with me.
