ok, I am an IB diploma student and will be taking the rest of my IB tests in the spring. do you suggest that I take the AP tests just for good measure so that I have actual scores to send in? I'm not experienced in the AP process, but I know that I don't receive my IB scores until the summer after, which really doesn't help on my application or mid-year report.

No, absolutely don't bother....your IB scores only matter when it comes to placing out of classes or getting extra credits...Just being in the courses and letting them know that you will be taking the IB exams or will be expecting an IB diploma is enough....they know the classes are hard and will look at your grades in them. Those should be enough to tell them about your abilities. Burdening yourself with AP exams as well would be a bad idea.

BTW, i was in the same boat as you and applied ED..ended up getting a 37 on the IB but of course it didnt matter.

So, if I am able to or wanted to (which don't think I do..) should I submit my final test scores to place out of certain classes? Come to think of it, what is Columbia's policy on transfering those credits? are they just so I can be placed in higher classes? or can they also take care of certain credits?

I actually have no idea how columbia ended up with my IB scores. The policy pretty much is that you can get 6 credits for a 6 or 7 on any higher level IB exam and you can use those either to place out of certain classes or to move up to a higher level of a class....there are classes that they dont allow placing out of and some classes they "strongly recommend" you take if it is required for your major. In general you will most likely use it for something like intro courses or language courses.
