AP vs. SAT II

I know this question probably has been posed many times, but I have never gotten a definite answer.

If a student takes many AP exams throughout high school and performs well, is it necessary for a student to take SAT II's when UVA is one of the few schools that RECOMMENDS them (whatever that means)?

i.e. AP US History exam vs. SAT II US History - they measure the same thing (AP exam probably measures a little extra)

It might be best to contact Admissions for clarification on this....I'd go ahead and take the SAT II"s, anyway, since the school recommends them. ( BTW, my D took several AP's and never had the scores sent, but did submit SAT II's. She was admitted as an Echols Scholar.)

well if here scores were good enough (assuming they were considering she received the prestigous echols scholar), why didn't she send them?

Take them.

"strongly recommends" means "required unless your an athlete or urm"

besides, if youre good at those subjects, the sat iis should be easy then. dont be lazy, once youre in college you wont even remember all the "stress" from having to take them. if you dont take them and then dont get in, you would probably regret that.

i still think it would be more beneficial for me to raise my SAT I scores instead.

well that's probably a good idea, but you didnt mention it in this thread before now.
