I’m going to be in 9th grade this fall, and I will be taking AP World History. Does anyone have any advice on studying for the class/exam? Or just advice on AP’s in general? This is the only AP class I’m taking this year. Thanks!
AP World was an interesting class, but a rigorous one. You should do just fine if it’s the only one you’re taking, though. I took it last year (my sophomore year), and it was a lecture-based class for me, meaning the teacher talked most of the class and we very seldom did any sort of project, and “class work” was working on the format needed for the essays in the exam. We also had a lot of reading every night and notes where we had to write a paragraph or so on each bulleted point on these blank “notes” the teacher gave us. Honestly, though, I got away with scanning the text for answers, and I think once you get into the swing of things you’ll be able to do that too.
The class covers a LOT of time in a few months, so you shouldn’t worry too much about the details in AP World.
The book all of the AP World classes at our school recommended using (and provided for students who wanted them) was REA’s crash course. They’re good review guides to pick up in March or April to start studying for the exam. The other review guides seemed to go into a lot more detail than they needed to, and the Crash Course review guide seemed to cover just the right amounts of information on each topic. It also gave tips on how to write good essays for each type.
Good luck with AP World! It’s a pretty interesting class, if you’re interested in world history. (: It shouldn’t be too difficult, so don’t stress it. Stay on top of homework and study when you need it, just like in any other class. It might be a little bit more demanding of your time than your other classes, but you do pretty much what you would for any other class in it, just spending more time on those things.
Thanks so much @Earthlingo ! AP world is the only ap I’m taking this year, and I am definitely interested in history.
This year I self-studied AP World and took test this year, receiving a 5. I can’t comment on the difficulty of the class because I never took one lol. Its all about interest and work. I would recommend you to get the Barron’s AP World History Prep Book, that was the only book that I used to study. Nearing the AP test date, I began to do all the previously released multiple choice and FRQ tests. Although I had a strong history background, I needed to work on the FRQ essays. Good luck!
Thank you @SpartanPhysique
