There is no requirement for college for WH specifically with the exception of the UC s that require a year of non-US history. A very small number may recommend WH but as long as she is taking a social science, it’s fine.

@skieurope The UCs REQUIRE 2 years of history: 1 year of US history and 1 year of World or European History. Brown, where I go, does not require 2 years, but HIGHLY RECOMMENDS it.
@seesaw777 If your daughter is able to take World History and hasn’t taken European History, it’s recommended to take it (required for UCs.) I took it as a Senior, and it’s a much easier class than AP US History if your daughter has taken it, given that the course was redesigned last year to cover a smaller time period.

Note that Brown doesn’t have any recommendations about social studies in-general (Psychology, Economics etc.) but DOES recommend history, likely because these are the harder classes at most schools.

A strong background in English (both literature and writing), foreign languages, mathematics, science, and history will enable students to benefit from the intellectual opportunities offered by Brown University. Thank you so much both .She took APHuman Geography ,Ap US history in 10th and honors History class in 9th grade. Hope this should be ok with colleges for history requirement.
AP Human Geography meets the UC world history reauirment, so she should be covered for any college. Additionally, e con is a great subject for every student. Good luck.
At our CA high school, kid targeting selective schools who like history take a freshman non-AP world history (they have to), AP Euro in 10th, AP USH in 11th, and in 12th it’s a mix of AP Econ and AP Comparative Governments (both a single semester).
@pn24601 Do you know if a CA student can change the order of the last two years, ie. do AP Econ/Gov in 11th, then APUSH in 12th?
@thealternative: It is up to your HS, which order you can take those classes. Cal states and UC’s only they require you take a US History course, World History (UC only) and a Government course but do not specify in which order. As long as you meet the requirements, you will be fine.
CSU requirement: ** History and Social Science (including 1 year of U.S. history or 1 semester of U.S. history and 1 semester of civics or American government AND 1 year of social science)**
UC requirement: ** Two years of history, including:
one year of world or European history, cultures and geography (may be a single yearlong course or two one-semester courses), and one year of U.S. history or one-half year of U.S. history and one-half year of civics or American government
Thanks, @Gumbymom. The reason why I ask: my kid’s high school schedule still has some mobility. Junior year will be difficult with math/languages; I thought if APUSH was in Senior year the reading/workload would be better distributed.
Whatever works with the HS schedule should be fine. When filling out the college applications, the current and planned Senior year courses will be listed so admissions does know what classes will be completed by graduation.
I don’t know – all my kids and their friends did them in that order. My kids will certainly know - I can ask.
