AP World History Essay Predictions 2011?

Does anybody know any possible essay topics for change over time & Compare and contrast in AP World?

Also, what if I’ve no idea what the essay topic is about? Will I be screwed or is there a trick to not be? And to prevent this, how should I study, since I’m self-studying it right now with Princeton Review Cracking book?

They usually give you a choice between regions. For the change over time, they say “Choose ONE of the following regions and discuss how it changed and remained the same.” For Comparison, they say “Choose TWO of the following regions and compare…”

Ok, thanks  So how do I study for the time periods? How could I remember what time each event happened (the general time period)? Is there a good timeline anywhere online?

I think the PR book has timelines at the end of each of the 5 units.

Since you are given choices, you don’t have to worry about if you blank out on, say, Africa between 600 and 1450.

I’m self studying too and am getting really worried. Mostly about the fact that I probably don’t know enough detail for the essays.

Anyways, I’ve been looking at the essays from the past years and I really don’t know how it might swing. I’m thinking maybe something about trade/the economy for one of the FRQs since that hasn’t been used since 2008.

Thank you for your prediction! I’m really worried as well that I might not know the details since the only book I use is PR and our regular World History class (our school don’t offer APWH).
Hopefully there will be posts out there that tells you the predictions as it gets closer to the test date, but trade/ econ could be a possibility.
Do you know any other topic we should stress on a little more while studying? (Like ex. the Han & Roman Empire comparison, they always come up in MC or FRQ)

I’m pretty much in the exact same boat as you (Regular WH text, AP Prep books). I don’t know what to expect. I’m so nervous!!!

Yeah lol me too!!

They will be easy, don’t worry! Last year we had a really easy DBQ about pros/cons of JPn industry, a C/C about Han China/Rome (which we wrote in our PreAP world class!) and some CoT I think was on africa. I think AP World is way easier than APUSH, especially in terms of essays. What I always did for body paragraphs was:

Assertion

Evidence (throwing out around five terms or more if possible)

“This was caused by _____________”

“The significance of this is __________”

and then made my conclusion about global impact or cross-regional impact. This and 3/4 guaranteed I would get the two extra points on the essay. It’s very mechanical, but this format really shows the reader that you know the information in a straightforward manner. As a result, I got a 9 on every single timed essay we wrote (15 in total, classmates struggled to get 5’s/9), and got a 5 on the exam. This structure doesnt exactly work for me in APUSH which is why I’ve been in the 7/8 range all year, and finally got my first two 9’s recently.

Thank you for your advices!!

So how do we study for the essays? Is there a good way to learn all those changes/ cont/ comparings?
