AP World History Exam

Hi everyone,
Kind of beating myself up after today's World History exam. I know I can't disclose info, so its not about that. I think I had good preparation, watch crash course videos, went to improve my essays with teachers, went to review sessions, and read some (given I had a week) of the Barron's World History exam review book. So I had the mentality that I was going to get this 5 blah blah. Forty-five minutes into the m.c., (I tried to time myself)and I knew I was spending to much time on the excerpt portions...ended up guessing on 18-23 questions. I did alright on the essays, probably around 4-5's. Will this be enough for a four, are there any techniques for the m.c., and what were your past experiences with this exam.
Thx

In simple terms…

That test was really hard! I prepared like 36+ hours for it, yet I think I failed it.

Oh god those excerpts. I skipped them and went back at the end and finished with enough time. You really have to go into maximum overdrive on the m.c… On the writing I spent and hour and a half on just the dbq. scrapped for points on the other 2. You might already know about this but http://appass.com/calculators/world</a> can help you get an idea of what you got.

I agree, there were a lot of passages! I just put random answers for those, did the questions with no passages, and came back to the passages.

Does anyone else think the essays were their worst nightmare?

Yay, being my first AP test, I analyzed the excerpts and quotes longer than I had wanted to. At least I was on question 62, before I finished. I did have some skipped answers however, going back would be the best way. As you can get points for easy simple answers, then the long passages.

I finished the MC with four minutes to spare. Oh my god those 4 minutes. AHHH.
And dang, you spent a lot of time on the DBQ! I spent 50 minutes on the DBQ, and 30 minutes on each other essay so I had 20 minutes at the end to spare of which I used to go back to read over my essays.
Oh were they cringe worthy. My hand writing was so sloppy and my grammar - I feel so bad for the people who have to grade my essays.
I drew a picture at the end with the spare time I had after that and wrote a letter of how I pity the person that had to read that. :/

I thought I did pretty well on the m.c. portion but then I had an uncontrollable coughing fit during the essay portion and so I had to turn it in early and only managed to finish the dbq. D: So that’s one AP grade down the drain.

I took the exam and honestly there were TOO MANY excerpts I know people that ended up guessing on the entire second half because they could not finish! It really wasn’t fair. I took many many practice mc sections from different websites and review books and none of them had so many excerpts. Hopefully the curve will help us all that’s my only hope!

Apparently 60% got 0’s on the DBQ.

^ I heard that 60% of people got 0s on the second (very specific) essay.

I think that I should be fine for the essays but I think my grade will depend on how generous the reader is lol. The multiple choice was practically my worst nightmare because of the excerpts. I nearly fell out of my seat when the proctor said that time was up. All my preparation and studying did almost nothing to help me.

I just want my grade back so I can forget about the entire experience.

Yeah, this year had lowest essay scores ever, apparently (averages were 2, 1, 1 lol), and 60% got 0 on the CCOT.

Even tho there were 5 more reading questions, apparently the % correct was around the same as last year.

Where are you all hearing this from???

I agree, where is this info from

Trevor Packer’s tweets.

How did you guys do?

I got a 4! But I can see why so many people didnt do well on the cot. It was very specific when it came to time ranges but I stuck to it. I think my compare contrast kept me from the 5 because I really came up with some BS,

How do you type in your AP #?? I’ve spent like 30 minutes trying to view my scores. When I clicked on “View my scores” , it shows that your scores aren’t available yet. I am in the early window time frame.

I got a 3. I don’t think I even received ONE point on ANY of the FRQs. I guess it’s okay for not studying…

I got a 5. Honestly, I think it was pretty borderline on a five. I think my essays were good, just not amazing like they should be. Good information, just short. I managed to finish all of the questions with a few minutes to spare. I think you just need to get used to reading excerpts quickly. My WH teacher had us do a lot of quick source reading so I prepared. My DBQ and CCOT were pretty decent. If there was anything that was lacking it was the Compare Contrast, as it was pretty short when I wrote it. Not as much information, and then I think I had a few things that were out of the time period.

I spent quite a bit of time studying. During the year I spent about 45 minutes a night taking notes from my book. Then, a few weeks before I started reading Barron’s and read it once, then focused and reread on areas I didn’t know as well. My teacher had us do quite a few practice essays, and then I outlined some previous test essays. I took a lot of multiple choice essays, setting myself a goal to improve my score. Then the last weekend before the test, I started watching Crash Course (Though I wish I found out about it earlier), but focused on the topics that I knew less about. (Nothing modern, European). This kind of studying worked for me obviously, so if anyone reads this who’s taking AP World in the future, take some of my suggestions.

I got a 4. I could have prepared better.
