AP World History or AP US Government and Politics?

Hi, I’m a freshmen who’s scheduling for my next years classes. Since I can’t double up on the sciences (I have to take Chem H before AP Bio), and I don’t want to take Algebra II over the summer (its a fundamental math course) I’m pretty sure I’m going to be doubling up on history.

The thing I know about AP World is that I will have the same teacher I had for World History H, and I know how she teaches, and I’m doing pretty well in that class (97 both marking periods, 92 on midterm.) She said that some of the stuff in AP World is similar to the material in WHH. How is the AP World exam? My teacher says she spends a month reviewing for it.

For AP Gov and Politics, I heard the teacher is really cool, and from what I’ve read on the forums, the AP exam isn’t too bad. However, I don’t really follow politics, so will self-studying be a problem?

I know for sure I want to take one AP course sophomore year, and these are, unfortunately, my only options. (I mean I can also take AP Euro, but thats not happening).

Thanks so much for feedback! Any would be really helpful! I have one week to decide. Also, if this means anything, I really want to get into a top tier school, such as the ivies or comparable.

bump. someone please answer! anything would be helpful! :)

Take AP World, self-study Gov

^ I second that

I feel that AP World has a lot more breadth in its topics, so it would help to take it as a year-long class with a teacher explaining the essay process, which is complex at first but essay writing is critical for AP World. U.S. Government could be self-studied with a study guide and devotion.

I would agree with what’s already been said. If I were in your position, I would take AP World and then get the materials to self study for AP US Government. I’m currently taking AP US Gov as a class, and I would definitely suggest that you read the textbook we’re currently using. I find that it comprehensively covers every topic necessary for the exam, and I’m very confident that I will get a five on the exam.

The textbook is simply called “American Government” written by Theodore J. Lowi, Benjamin Ginsberg, and Kenneth A. Shepsle. If I were you, I would purchase the latest edition considering that the test covers material up to three to four years prior to the test date. While the textbook may then be expensive, it’s necessary that you’re acquainted with recent material that accurately depicts what’s currently going on in American politics. If you have any further questions regarding anything mildly AP related or simply AP US Gov related, don’t hesitate to private message me.

yankeefreak, is there an online pdf of this book that I can download?

thanks so much for the feedback you guys! I think that I will take AP World, and self-study for AP Gov like the majority says.

Well I’m taking ap world right now and I can tell you its a great class and you should take it also because you already know the teacher.
