Is it a good idea? I'm pretty good with social studies, so I'm thinking about taking this AP. I did take a World History class back as a sophomore but I might have forgotten the stuff (actually stuff like history really hits me when I re-see it so I won't necessarily be "learning" new stuff I guess). Anyways, is world history more European history orientated, or is there actually stuff about Africa and Asia or only when they came in contact with western civ? Is it okay if I just buy Barron's or PR or whatever and study from that and pass a few weeks before the test? And is the format similar to the APUSH which I took? Like 80 mc and then a free response with three essays? Thanks.

I think the exam will be harder than you think it is. I took it last year. It is mostly non-European history (I believe less than 30% can be European). So knowing your Far East, African, South American etc. history is a must. If you read a lot of history books, and use a text (I like Stearn's World Civilization), it is possible. You should read and study way before the testing date.

The essays are a lot different than US. You have a Change over time essay and also a compare and contrast. You still have the DBQ, however, there are less documents, but more information given. You also have to group the documents somehow, unlike APUSH.

I hope this helps.

Thanks. I thought it would be mostly European since the WH class I took focused on modern Euro history (1400's-postWWII). So is European history any easier if I studied that already? What time period does AP Euro cover?

I plan on self-studying AP World History this year, while taking AP U.S. History. What book are you planning to buy?

It's insanely easy. Though I'm a history nerd so that helped.

I think I will do European history instead. I think I will buy "Modern European History" by Viault and the PR.

AP World seems a lot more challenging than most of the AP sciences I'm self-studying lol but I am familiar with how to write the DBQ/essay

I self studied ffor the AP world test and it was hard since there was also a year interval between me actually taking honors global. I studied my ass off during spring break. I had to learn things that i did not learn in my honors global class. In the end i recieved a 4 and im so happy. You have to work hard if you are going to self study, not a walk in the park.

If you are willing to put an effort into studying for the test you should be fine. While I love history, I did not prepare for the test very much. The test consists mostly of comparisons and you do not have to know any specific facts for the test. I received a 3.

Ok so I had a teacher that didn't teach much. We just ended up reading whatever was in the textbook. I thought I bombed the test but ended up getting a 5. I don't know how it happened but I did. You should be fine studying on your own. make sure you know how to write the DBQ. I think that's what saved me. Good luck!
