I have absolutely no background or interest in either of these topics. However, which one would be the better choice to take as a class in my school. If I decided to take one of them as an online class, would the decision change?

if you don’t even know treble clef (You might be able to get by if you read another clef, but start studying that treble now), I would not recommend taking music theory. Music theory is actually hard and skill-oriented, where as AP Art History is more like a regular ap class where you study and learn things. Some people no matter how hard they study can’t get an A in music theory at my school.

knowing the piano is a very good thing for music theory. Do you know it?

I used to play a few years ago. Then I got lazy and quit lol. I’ll go with Art History since I have very little recollection of my piano history.

I have absolutely no background in both of them as well, but I would never consider Music Theory, because it always struck me as something that really requires a musical inclination and past experience. I’m considering self-studying AP Art History next year which is more or less like any other history.

You can’t do music theory. Trust me. I attend a high school specifically for students in the arts, and three kids last year failed the AP exam, even though they’re at the school for music. (Admittedly, they were the teacher’s first fails in ten years, and they were slackers.) Definitely go with art history.
