I was wondering, what is the difference between staying at a dorm and the apartment. i've been accepted into Sixth College and wanted to know which is better. also, do we have to pay a separate electricity and water bill if we choose the apartments?

thanks!

Whether dorm or apartment, housing under UCSD includes internet, electricity, water & a set amount of dining dollars. For first years, it’s better to stay in a dorm just for the sake of experiencing dorm life. It’s a lot easier to meet other freshmen in dorms than apartments. Most dorms don’t have kitchens and are connected with a common room. Apartments are apartments. They have a kitchen, but less people living together at once.

Live in the dorms freshman year, you’ll meet more people. In an apartment you’ll be with 2nd years who already have their friends. It may not be as fun for you.

thank you so much ^^

one more question, are the rules and guest and overnight guest policies the same for both?

There really are no regulations as to who can stay overnight in your dorm.

wow, really? the website made it sound so horrible ;.;

I think the only rule is that you can’t have a guest stay longer than 3 nights, but I don’t even really know how they would monitor that. Here’s my thing about the dorms though. I recommend being in a dorm because you’ll be around more freshmen.
