I would like to move into an apartment in the spring.

What websites should I search on? Just craigslist? Or is there another large one where available apartments get posted?

craigslist is best-dont use calrentals

craigslist is your best bet. just keep an eye out for open houses, and then go to them.

don’t rent from everest properties.

I would say to generally avoid the properties that have management companies behind them (ex: Everest, Raj, Panoramic Management). Either their services are terrible (ie: Everest and Raj!) or rent is so incredibly overpriced (Panoramic). Craigslist is your best bet. But after you book an appointment, make sure that your landlord is solid. You don’t want to end up with a landlord who doesn’t do his/her job. Apartment hunting is very frustrating, but sometimes you can end up with gems. I went apartment hunting this past July. I looked at so many places and turned in so many applications. I don’t know how I landed the place I’m currently living at, but I believe I got lucky.

move in with me lol, $200 rent, split a room, north berkeley hills, close to campus!!! Like others said, use craigslist. Is this your first time apartment searching?

Yeah.

I plan on getting my own apartment though. I just hope I can get a deal on a 1 br.
Why are the management companies so bad?

Besides Everest and Raj which suffer from poor management and shady/rude landlords, other management companies charge a lot more than the average prices on the market. I’m mainly referring to the main prominent companies like Everest which has lots of property on Southside. Craigslist can give you a good sense of what the average prices are.

Here are some reviews:
[Everest Properties - Downtown Berkeley - Berkeley, CA](http://www.yelp.com/biz/everest-properties-berkeley)
[K & S Company - Albany, CA](http://www.yelp.com/biz/k-and-s-company-albany)

I hope you expect to pay $1100+ for a 1 br that’s close to school.

Start early as you can, watch craigslist like a hawk, make sure all plumbing works, remember how much the rent was for each place, check address out on google (may have pest complaints, etc…), and expect price to increase as you go closer to campus.

Going along with what sparetire said: [Lakireddy Bali Reddy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Lakireddy Bali Reddy - Wikipedia)

Try craigslist.

Walk around campus! I’ve seen MANY ‘for rent’ signs (especially near the Asian ghetto and units 1/2).
