Apartments

Thank you guys so much for answering all of my questions. This one concerns apartments.

I'm transferring in for the Fall and am currently on the waiting list for dorms. I'm number 217, so it's pretty iffy that I'll actually get a spot. For those that are already in Athens, are there any apartment communities that you would recommend. Those that are safe, close to campus and convenient?

well, i've been on the wait list b4...it sucks i know. If u were #217 and u posted this in mid-june, then i can guess 2 things for you:
1. u are going to get housing in East Campus. Its one of the nicest dorms ever! it looks like a new apartment and all the football players stay there. Its right next to Ramsey( our huge a$$ gym and fitness center) u get ur own room and can have ur own bathroom or share with 1 or 3 other roommates. The only problem is that it is very expensive to stay there!check the semester cost for it.
2. ur not going to get on-campus housing
if u have the money to splurge then i recommend staying at ECV, otherwise u should consider off campus
all the off-campus apartments are safe and i don't know if its anything but UGA students that stay there. most apartments runs on the Athens Transit bus system so u don't have to worry about transportation and since u will be a UGA student, we get free passes to ride the bus.
if you are on a budget, then i would recommend Lakeside(furnished), riverbend apt(unfurished), polo club ( the bus comes to these apartments every 15-20 minutes)
if you can chung out a few extra bucks, i highly recommend staying at River Walk. I have a friend staying there and he loves it. Its one of the newer apartments, so theres no roaches, pest problems, no leaks, or maintenance problems, and if there is the management there is awesome; they are always willing to help!
it also depends on if u want to be on the meal plan or not, if u do then u should wait it out and see if u get EVC or call the housing department and ask them what are ur chances of getting housing.
best of luck!

Just a note to the above...

I live at one of the apartments listed, and to get the same room set up at ECV, it's more expensive (including meal plan price). I would really, really consider off campus if you're looking to save money. At least in an apartment, you'll get a kitchen. I would've stayed in ECV if they had kitchens.

Thanks guys, very much! My family and I have indeed decided to shoot for off campus, and we're going tomorrow to hopefully sign a lease. I definitely appreciate the advice. I'm still 174 on the list, so I just can't see me getting a sure spot on campus and its not worth the wait.
