I am considering doing APEA this summer, for electrical engineer and chemistry. Can anyone comment on the program? Difficulty of admission?

My friend may be going to Governor's school at carnegie, can I room with him if I'm in apea?

No one has comments on it?

From what I've heard, the APEA will provide you with a learning experience that is approximately as difficult as being a freshman at CMU. I think (heresay) that it is a rewarding program, but somewhat intense. I notice on the APEA site that they discuss taking one or two classes but strongly discourage taking three, so I read this as telling you that no matter how smart/ hard working you may be, two classes will be quite challenging.

Good luck!

As far as I know, Pre-college rooms in Donner while Govies room in Morewood E. Plus, Governor's School doesn't care too much about outsiders in their program, so you won't be able to even enter their dorms legally, but it can be done really easily if you want. I'm thinking it's a major violation for them, though.

Do PGSS students interact with APEA? Is there any tension between the groups?

Pre-college shot at us, and we threw rocks at them. That was about the limit of our interaction.

Well, they were water guns. But the rocks were real. Anyway, don't mess with our fence when we come.

Did anyone apply to the APEA pre-college program or the SAMS program (Summer for Diversity Program)? Did anyone hear yet if they got in? My son applied to SAMS, but hasn't heard yet.

Applied to APEA and havn't heard back yet.

My son got a letter on APEA last week. He's in.

reasonable dad, if you dont mind when did he apply/ what were his stats?

I spoke with CMU admissions office last Friday. They said the decisions will be made this week and everyone will hopefully hear by Friday 5/5.

Ok, what if they have not yet recieved my SATs (they just not my psats). How picky are they? How hard is admission into APEA?

Princeton10 ~ Son previously did another program, so all of his SAT/SAT II/AP stuff was already recorded at CMU. He applied during the first week of April, I think, but we walked the application in because we live in western PA.

I mailed my application materials on May 2nd rather than May 1, due to the fact it was on a Sunday when the post office is closed. Do you think the admissions comittee will still consider my application despite being one day late to the stated deadline? On the APEA website, it stated that CMU may still accept applications until June 1, however, space pending... is it a common occurence for APEA to not fill up all their space by May 1st?

As of april 20th there was still "plenty of space", I'm sure you'll be fine.

Thanks, hopefully that will be the case. What classes have you signed up for? I have signed up for Calculus (first semester) and Concepts of Mathematics. I hope to apply to CMU ED as a senior next year.

i wanted to do calc 2 and intro to ece but they conflicted, so i did physics mechanices (only did honors in school) and intro to ece. They still conflict on lab days but the director said we can work around that.
Do you have aim or email, we can talk. My aim is starbotjon, my email is jongowa@gmail.com.

Hope to see you this summer!
(I also want to go to carnegie for school if I dont make it into princeton which is my current first choice).

My email is tamirms@gmail.com, AIM is jndoe816. Hope to see you too!

I just got into APEA too. However, I got in through the SAMS program so unless I'm sadly mistaken, I get to go for free. I guess they thought I would help diversify the atmosphere at CMU being white and all. As of now I'm supposed to be taking intro to ECE and calculus if I go (I really want to). Hope to see you all soon.
