Hello! Auburn is my number one school and its safe to say I am just stressed about acceptance. I have a 3.79 GPA, 1610 on my SAT with writing, then a 27 on my ACT without writing. I was the president of a club with over 400 students and am involved in several honor societies. I started my application September 1st and sent it in September 9th. I did a great job with my essay questions, even having an auburn alum review them. I’m out of state and the first in my family to go to college (highest income tear). Would my chances at early acceptance or even acceptance be good? Thanks everyone!
Hi there! Here what I found for you on Auburn’s website: The middle 50% profile for the 2014 Freshmen Class:
ACT: 24-30
SAT-:1090-1350
GPA: 3.83
Based on this criteria, your ACT score looks mid-range and your GPA is low. That being said, I hope you wrote about the passion you have for this club you created. You should be commended for leading such a large group of students at such a young age. I also applaud your efforts as the first in your family to go to college. Well done! It sounds like you did the right thing by applying very early. Make sure to double check with your high school that your transcripts were sent properly and that you have successfully sent your test scores directly from the ACT or SAT website to Auburn University. I only say that because, our guidance office made a mistake and accidentally sent two transcripts to Clemson instead of one to Auburn and one to Clemson. Fortunately, we caught the error in time. Please don’t assume they have sent them. Politely verify.
Our son is now a sophomore at Auburn and he too applied around mid-September. He received his acceptance by mail mid-October, so hopefully you will know something by the end of October. The advice we gave him was to apply to several colleges where his scores and GPA were in the middle to high side of the range as well. Please know acceptance to one college does not define you or lessen your accomplishments to this point. Congratulations on all you have achieved so far, and I wish you all the best! War Eagle!
@Tbosmom thank you for your help! I forgot to mention my GPA is unweighted… and they told us when we visited that they would most definitely account for that. Went into extreme detail about how the leadership role built a basis for my future and so on, but thank you so much for your help!
Unless they upped the requirements from last year, you should get in with that GPA and ACT (I got in with a 3.78 and a 29 ACT last year). Your GPA is fine - even for Honors College Admission! - but I might consider trying the ACT again as scholarships begin at a 29 for out of state students War Eagle!
@trailblazer11 thank you for the help!! Do you remember when you got accepted? I’m honestly just so anxious and ready to know. But I’m taking the SAT this weekend in hopes of improving just for scholarships. Thank you again, war eagle!
Accepted!
WGPA 3.91
ACT 26
Found out when logged in to check admission status. Applied first week of September.
@FLmomz, congratulations!
My daughter is in the process of applying for early acceptance (4.65 WGPA/ 29 ACT) and struggling over the essays… Basically, she says the answer to her Why Auburn? question is the same as the How is your major going to help you after you graduate? question… The department is really strong…How important are the essays for early acceptance?
Accepted as well! War eagle!!! Just checked this post and decided to check my status… SO happy I did!
@FLMom2Four as I understand it, early acceptance is based on test scores and GPA. With those stats I would think it is better to get the app in early and not stress too much on essays.
Congratulations @FLmomz and @ 2125au!!! and War Eagle! Two years ago, we were told that we should place our housing deposit down as soon as it comes available as that put our son toward the top of the housing list. Some of the best advice he received. Here is what I found on the website regarding housing for 2017-2018: http://www.auburn.edu/administration/housing/apply/new/ Again, Congratulations!
Thanks @FLmomz. I think I will have to set her a hard deadline, otherwise she will be putzing around with her essays until the early acceptance period is over! :-0
Congratulations to everyone else accepted!
